PK Grills have been around for a long time, around 50 years to be exact. Their design team are constantly innovating and developing their BBQs, the new Aaron Franklin edition is no different.

Design

PK Grills Aaron Franklin Edition has been redesigned from the ground up, using injection aluminium casting much like the flagship PK 360. Hence, this makes for a tighter seal, meaning when you close the lid it will snuff out flare-ups, and lower the temperature as the vents are doing all the work.

Airflow

Aluminium being a very conductive metal is a bonus when it comes to the PK grill capsule. This allows heat to conduct around the capsule, allowing for very even heat distribution across your grilling surface. So,food will not need to be rotated during cooking.

Having a total of 4 vents on your cooker allows for very accurate airflow manipulation in and out of the BBQ. So, this means you can offset your coal to one side, and direct the heat flow in and out of the cooker over the food.
Furthermore, this low and slow cooking style is excellent for large cuts of meat like whole chickens or turkeys, briskets, beef and pork ribs. You can choose from various classic heat management styles, but we like the minion method.

If it's steakhouse searing you want, the PKAF has you covered, these can get extremely hot with all the vents open!

PK300 AF, this is going to get a lot of use.

Went for the 300 as wanted a compact BBQ for when there is just the two of us. So far have done a T-Bone and some burgers and I'm really impressed. Space is amble for indirect and direct heat, love the controllability with the vents and cleaning it out is a breeze. Great grill.

PK300 AF Edition

used twice so far since purchased, first impressions tell me that it's going to get a lot of use and the kamado joe less so ? need to still work out managing the temperature and could do to get it hotter, probably better using small pieces of charcoal and more than just the large chimney starter. overall very pleased with it, the belly bar and tray shelves are a nice touch

PK300 AF

what a stunning grill, watched a couple of youtube videos before putting it together, certainly helped! the cast aluminium pieces are very well build and the entire unit seems solid and stable now fully built. Extra AF pieces like the belly bar are worthwhile and dual side tables are a godsend

Love the build but the not function

For starters.... There isn't enough room between the grill grate and the coal grate for Big-K lump charcoal (probably any other lump charcoal) so the grill grate is sitting on top of the charcoal.
The grill grate is fairly thin metal and worry about longevity.
The lid often binds when trying to open it. Very annoying.
Says you can add a temp probe but not sure where exactly. There is a hole on the left side but that would put the probe right over the coals and wouldn't be very accurate.

Other notes. It is fairly small for the price. I should have paid closer attention when buying. If looking at a PK I would opt for the larger one. My partner even commented, "looks like a toy".

The instructions for assembly need work. A few times it stated the wrong screws to use. Also, they included some lock washers but if you use them the screw doesn't have enough purpose on the threads and will most likely strip them.
