From Coffee Grounds to Live Fire
ProSmoke BBQ x Tumblebug — Working with Blenheim Estate
As Seen on BBC Countryfile
Some projects immediately stand out — not just for the setting, but for what they represent.
We recently spent the morning with Tumblebug, setting up a brand-new Big Green Egg at their mushroom farm, located just a few miles from Blenheim Palace.
While Tumblebug aren’t based on the estate itself, they work closely with Blenheim Estate as part of a genuinely impressive closed-loop food and sustainability project.
Build, Deliver & Set Up — The ProSmoke Way
We supplied and installed the Big Green Egg as part of our full white-glove build and delivery service.
That means:
-
Fully assembled and professionally positioned on site
-
Correct setup and airflow from day one
-
Ready to cook immediately — no guesswork, no compromises
For projects like this, the cooking equipment has to align with the philosophy behind the food. Ceramic cookers offer exceptional temperature stability, live-fire flavour, and versatility — making them ideal for showcasing ingredients grown with this level of care.
This wasn’t about dropping off a barbecue.
It was about enabling great food to be cooked properly, from the very first cook.

Turning Coffee Waste into Gourmet Mushrooms
In brief, Tumblebug collect spent coffee grounds from Blenheim Estate cafés and restaurants — more than 440,000 cups of coffee every year — and combine them with sawdust to create a rich growing medium for gourmet mushrooms.
What would normally be discarded becomes the foundation for produce with:
-
Exceptional flavour
-
A dense, meaty texture
-
Incredible performance over live fire
Some of the mushrooms grown here cook more like a steak than a vegetable — thriving over high heat, developing deep caramelisation, and delivering deep umami when cooked simply over charcoal.
These are ingredients that genuinely deserve fire.

Biochar, Carbon & Closing the Loop
Beyond mushroom production, Tumblebug also operate their own biochar facility.
Organic waste is converted into stable, carbon-rich biochar that:
-
Locks carbon away long-term
-
Improves soil structure and health
-
Supports regenerative growing practices
It’s a true closed-loop system — from waste, to soil, to food — and one of the reasons this project is set to feature on national television.
